19 Days to Christmas

Until 3 years ago, we didn’t have a front wall at our house. It was quite refreshing actually, especially during the Christmas holidays when the Carolers come around and sing at our front door while we are settling down to have dinner.

Here are some song words to my favourite Christmas Carols:

Away in a manger Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head. The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay, The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay. The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes, But little Lord Jesus no crying he makes. I love thee, Lord Jesus! Look down from the sky, And stay by my side until morning is nigh. Be near me Lord Jesus I ask thee to stay. Close by me forever, And love my I pray. Bless all the dear children, In thy tender care. And take them to heaven, To be with thee there.
The first Noel The first Nowell the Angel did say Was to three poor Shepherds in fields as they lay. In fields where they lay keeping their sheep, In a cold winters night that was so deep. Nowell, nowell, nowell, nowell, Born is the King of Israel. They looked up and saw a star Shining in the East, beyond them far, And to the earth it gave great light, And so it continued, both day and night. Nowell, nowell, nowell, nowell, Born is the King of Israel. And by the light of that same star Three wise men came from country far, To seek for a King was their intent, And to follow the star wherever it went. Nowell, nowell, nowell, nowell, Born is the King of Israel. This star drew nigh to the North West; O’er Bethlehem it took it’s rest. And there it did both stop and stay, Right over the place where Jesus lay. Nowell, nowell, nowell, nowell, Born is the King of Israel. Then did they know assuredly Within that house, the King did lie One entered in then for to see And found the babe in poverty. Nowell, nowell, nowell, nowell, Born is the King of Israel. Then enter’d in those wise men three, Full reverently upon their knee, And offer’d there, in his presence, Their gold, and myrrh, and frankincense. Nowell, nowell, nowell, nowell, Born is the King of Israel. Between an ox stall and an ass, This Child truly there born he was; For want of clothing they did him lay All in a manger, among the hay. Nowell, nowell, nowell, nowell, Born is the King of Israel. Then let us all with one accord Sing praises to our heavenly Lord; That hath made heaven and earth of nought, And with his blood mankind hath bought. Nowell, nowell, nowell, nowell, Born is the King of Israel. If we in our time shall do well We shall be free from death and Hell For God hath prepared for us all A resting place in general. Nowell, nowell, nowell, nowell, Born is the King of Israel.
God rest you merry, Gentlemen God rest you merry, gentlemen, Let nothing you dismay. For Jesus Christ our Savior, Was born on Christmas Day; To save us all from Satans power, When we were gone astray. O tidings of comfort and joy, For Jesus Christ our Savior Was born on Christmas day. In Bethlehem, in Jury, This blessed Babe was born, And laid within a manger, Upon this blessed morn; The which His mother Mary Did nothing take in scorn. O tidings of comfort and joy, For Jesus Christ our Savior Was born on Christmas day. From God our heavenly Father, A blessed angel came. And unto certain shepherds, Brought tidings of the same, How that in Bethlehem was born, The Son of God by name: O tidings of comfort and joy, For Jesus Christ our Savior Was born on Christmas day. Fear not, then said the angel, Let nothing you affright, This day is born a Savior, Of virtue, power, and might; So frequently to vanquish all, The friends of Satan quite; O tidings of comfort and joy, For Jesus Christ our Savior Was born on Christmas day. The shepherds at those tidings, Rejoiced much in mind, And left their flocks a feeding, In tempest, storm, and wind, And went to Bethlehem straightway, This blessed Babe to find: O tidings of comfort and joy, For Jesus Christ our Savior Was born on Christmas day. But when to Bethlehem they came, Whereas this Infant lay They found him in a manger, Where oxen feed on hay; His mother Mary kneeling, Unto the Lord did pray: O tidings of comfort and joy, For Jesus Christ our Savior Was born on Christmas day. With sudden joy and gladness The shepherds were beguiled, To see the Babe of Israel, Before His mother mild, O then with joy and cheerfulnes Rejoice, each mother’s child. O tidings of comfort and joy, For Jesus Christ our Savior Was born on Christmas day. Now to the Lord sing praises, All you within this place, And with true love and brotherhood, Each other now embrace; This holy tide of Christmas, Doth bring redeeming grace. O tidings of comfort and joy, For Jesus Christ our Savior Was born on Christmas day. God bless the ruler of this house And send him long to reign, And many a merry Christmas May live to see again; Among your friends and kindred That live both far and near. O tidings of comfort and joy, For Jesus Christ our Savior Was born on Christmas day.
It Came Upon The Midnight Clear It came upon the midnight clear, That glorious song of old, From angels bending near the earth, To touch their harps of gold! Peace on the earth, good will to men, From heaven’s all gracious King! The world in solemn stillness lay, To hear the angels sing. Still through the cloven skies they come, With peaceful wings unfurled, And still their heavenly music floats, O’er all the weary world; Above its sad and lowly plains, They bend on hovering wing. And ever o’er its Babel sounds, The blessed angels sing. Yet with the woes of sin and strife, The world hath suffered long; Beneath the angel-strain have rolled, Two thousand years of wrong; And man, at war with man, hears not, The love song which they bring: O hush the noise, ye men of strife, And hear the angels sing. For lo the days are hastening on, By prophet bards foretold, When, with the ever-circling years, Shall come the Age of Gold; When peace shall over all the earth, Its ancient splendors fling, And all the world give back the song, Which now the angels sing.
Silent Night Silent night, holy night! All is calm, all is bright. Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child. Holy infant so tender and mild, Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace. Silent night, holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight. Glories stream from heaven afar Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia, Christ the Savior is born! Christ the Savior is born. Silent night, holy night! Son of God love’s pure light. Radiant beams from Thy holy face With dawn of redeeming grace, Jesus Lord, at Thy birth. Jesus Lord, at Thy birth.
